Day 2- way less poo

So I am a bit confused about Day 1, Day 2 etc.  Gonna try to work out what "day" today is an work back...So I had surgery on Tuesday.  Day 1 was Wednesday.  Day 2 Thursday.  I will recap what Thursday was like!

As mentioned previously, I had amazingly little nerve pain after they gave me Lyrica.  Day 2 I woke up feeling waaaay more pulled together.  Wednesday I just cried all day.  I couldn't get over how weak and busted up I felt.  My operated leg was just not "there".  Anyway Thursday morning I felt a lot better after some sleep and the back pain (unrelated to hip surgery) being treated.

The physio came fairly early and got me to try a different kind of walking frame (the day before it was one you lean your elbows and forearms on).  This was a lightweight aluminium one with wheels and stoppers that came up to my hips.  I was able to take steps quite well with this frame, so she encouraged me to walk around the ward and the floor, several times that day, with rests in between.  I was taken off all drips, catheters etc and alllowed to walk to the toilet, shower etc.  Being able to move around made all the difference to my back, and the only thing I needed to worry about was my hip.  Oh and my bowels.  I was given senna and some other things Thursday morning as I hadn't pooped since Tuesday morning.

I dressed myself- with the anterior incision, the only precaution is no leg crossing.  So to do shoes and socks you have to spread legs and lean down (leaning down is a dislocation risk for  other incision types).  It's awkward but do-able.

An OT came to see if I needed any aids for the home.  I decided to rent a toilet seat raiser, because it doubles as a shower chair and I am a little nervous about the shower.  I may not need it on the toilet (it's safe for me to sit down low, just easier on a higher seat.  Also it has arms that are great for standing up again).

The surgeon came to see me.  I asked him about my quads just not working.  He got me to try a few movements and felt my muscles- said they are firing, he's not worried, he GUARANTEES it will be fine.  I asked if that was a money back guarantee and he said 'it's as close as you'll get' which made me laugh.  I asked if it was normal and he said no, but it's also not super unusual.  I do notice slight improvement every day, but it's a LONG way from where I gather it should be.  Doesn't really impede my walking, but it's not good.

So I spent Thursday walking, icing my thigh (apparently they don't normally suggest ice to hip patients but I have found it really great), napping and walking some more.  By Thursday evening, my pain was so minimal that I passed on a couple offers of Endone, just taking some before I went to bed for the night.  I slept all night (this NEVER HAPPENS) except for one trip to the toilet.

I was feeling so little pain that I forgot I was supposed to use a walker!  I walked to the toilet- then realised and went back for the walker!  Oops.  Anyway once morning came I decided to try walking with just the stick and it was good.
